Hee-Haw!

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

This weekend was Viget’s latest event, which was at the Marriott Ranch out in Hume, VA. We spent the day skeet shooting (well, not me), horseback riding (not me again), and lawn game playing (yay shuffle board!), followed by our annual Anniversary Dinner (country style).

Lots of pics from the day collected here: http://flickr.com/photos/viget/tags/ranch/

That night Larry and I stayed at the Marriott Ranch for the night, which was a quaint bed and breakfast (the breakfast wash delicious!), and then spent Saturday Wine tasting with Meliss, Ian, and Page.

Our favorite was probably Linden Vineyards – we even got a bottle of Rose there for later.

Crepes & Lobster Trucks

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

This weekend Larry came to visit me in DC. He caught an early flight, so I had to rush from work through DC traffic to pick him up (only a little late). That night we got some beers and watched the Mets at Baileys, played some pool, and ended the night with some coldstone. Yum!

Saturday I wanted to show Larry Old Town Alexandria. As soon as we got there though, it started POURING. We were able to make it from the car to a teeny restaurant for bunch called Fontaine Caffe & Creperie, which served (obviously) crepes and looked like it was a bit of a wine bar too. We each got an entree crepe, and then this awesome chocolate , peanut butter, and nutella crepe for dessert!

After brunch it was still raining so I gave Larry the driving tour and then we drove back to DC. When we got closer to home it clearer up, so we went into Georgetown for a bit, to my new favorite area up north on Wisconsin Ave. While we were walking we saw this truck, which Larry couldn’t get enough of :)

We also got some yummy chocolate covered gummy bears, and I got a pair of new shoes.  Then, it stared raining again so we called it a day. On the way home I took Larry to the Italian Store for a “snack” (and I found the one place in Virginia you can buy cavatelli. woohoo!). That night we attempted to go to dinner at a new restaurant called Asia Nine, but when we got there they told us they had to turn off the gas so all they were serving was sushi. We nixed that and instead went right to the bar we were planning on going to afterwards to have dinner, Urbana in the Hotel Palomar. Despite our flamboyant and often absent waiter, we had a great (italian) dinner, and then moved over to the lounge/wine bar for a bit (definitely a place I’d go back to). We ended the night back in Ballston at Front Page to meet up with J, Brit, Kristen, and Dave for a few drinks, and then called it a night.

NY & Jordan’s Christening

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Friday night I flew into NY and we went immediately to meet a bunch of Larry’s friends for tapas at a restaurant called Alta in the West Village. There was an option on the menu called “The Whole Shebang,” which in essence was the entire menu. And that’s what we ordered.

It was awesome, but we all left utterly stuffed.

We didn’t have any plans for Saturday so we went down to the South Street Seaport and Ground Zero. Ground Zero was interesting, as I haven’t been there before, and since it was a nice (although a little chilly) day, it was nice to walk around the seaport.

Friday night we went to a place called Jane for dinner. Looked like an average kind of restaurant, but had really great food (including this amazing Arugula and Pear salad). After dinner we went downstairs for Larry’s friend Adam’s (surprise) Birthday party for a bit, then over to Pegu Club for a round of concoctions…

and then finally over to Rivington Hotel to meet up with Ben and Wendy.

We ended the night with some dinner food, so if your counting, that’s 4 places in one night.

Sunday Larry and I took the train to NJ for my nephew Jordan’s christening (where my brother and I also became godparents):

Following the service, Nike and Jamie through an afterparty at a nearby hotel, where we got some nice family shots:

I shipped Larry home around 5pm and then went back to spend the night at my parent’s house. I was supposed to fly out Monday evening, but that flight got canceled and then the next flight they put me on also got canceled (apparently Continental can’t fly in the rain), so I wasn’t able to fly out until Tuesday morning. Whew! A bit annoying, but also nice to have an unexpected break with my parents.

Lots more pics from the whole weekend here.
