Last Weekend in VA

Monday, July 28th, 2008

This weekend was a busy last goodbye to my VA apartment. Friday night Larry and I repeated last week and went back to Harry’s one last time for food and wine. Saturday morning we had to get up early and drive down to Williamsburg for my cousin’s wedding. Pretty wedding, with the reception at a vineyard.

Sunday morning we drove with my parents back to VA and picked up the Penske truck in Springfield on the way back (even got upgraded for free to a bigger truck)! We spent the rest of the day doing final packing, loading up the truck (thanks Vinny!), and as much cleaning as we could (until the vacuum broke) before we passed out on the air mattress in the living roon.

Monday it was up bright and early for the big drive up. My mom, (a drugged up) Mitzie, and I started out in my can and Larry and my Dad in the truck. Drive went very smoothly (Mitzie was amazingly well behaved), and once we got into NJ we swapped, and Mitzie and I got into the truck and my Dad and Mom continued on to take my car to their house. Larry and I made good time getting to the Holland tunnel, however once we got to the toll booth, we were informed that we weren’t allowed to go through the tunnel. crap. So we had to take a detour (and sit in traffic) to go through the Lincoln tunnel, and finally got to the apartment around 4pm. With Ben’s help we unloaded everything pretty quickly and started the long, move in process!

(Second to) Last Weekend in VA

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

This weekend Larry came down for my last full weekend in VA. Friday night we kept it easy, went to Harry’s Tap Room and got some food and a bottle of wine outside. Our Saturday was a busy one – we had our gigantic new bed delivered in the morning, sold off my old bed to two guys who literally carried it home in the afternoon, then did a little shopping for some last minute apartment items (including a new dining room table). At night met Page and Meliss out for dinner at Mie N Yu in Georgetown.

No stinking cheese this time, although we did see a coked out looking belly dancer and a guy at the table next to us asked us if we thought his wife looked like a lesbian. After a good dinner (and about 4 hours) we went down to the Georgetown waterfront and met up with Vinny, J, and Britney for some drinks to say goodbye (for now) to DC.

Sunday we did brunch, Larry forced helped me to re-post my couch and table w/ chairs on Craiglist, and then it was time to send him back to NY.

229 Chrystie Street

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

This weekend Larry and I officially moved (some of) our stuff into the new apartment. I drove up from VA on Friday with everything I could fit in my car (mostly to keep at my parents for the September garage sale), and then Saturday morning made my way into the city. After getting lost twice and passing 4 Gary V billboards, I arrived at 229 Chrystie St. As Larry’s Dad painted away, and C & B and West Elm delivered stuff, Larry and I put together our patio furniture, TV stand, and coffee table and made a couple of trips to Larry’s old apartment to pick up the rest of his stuff (which included getting the best parking spot ever after one trip back.

That night we went over to Reed & Jess’s new place for their housewarming party (where we stole a few ideas for our place as well :) ). Sunday morning we put together a few more things, and then it was back to VA for me.
